A Style Guide by Felicia Marie Photography

Choosing outfits for your family session can feel overwhelming but it doesn’t have to be.

One of the biggest things I hear from families before their session is:

“What should we wear?”

As a Denver photographer who has photographed families in every season, I promise you the right wardrobe choices can elevate your photos from good to timeless.

Here’s how to keep it simple and beautiful.

1. Start With Neutrals + Soft Tones

Denver’s natural landscapes are already stunning golden fields, mountain views, soft sunsets.

The goal is to complement the scenery, not compete with it.

Some of my favorite color palettes:

• Cream

• Soft beige

• Light gray

• Dusty blue

• Sage green

• Muted blush

Avoid:

• Neon colors

• Busy patterns

• Large logos

• Matching identical outfits

Instead of matching — coordinate.

2. Think Texture Over Prints

Texture photographs beautifully.

Examples:

• Knit sweaters

• Flowy dresses

• Linen

• Denim

• Layers (jackets, cardigans)

These add depth to your photos without being distracting.

3. Dress Mom First

Yes I said it.

When mom feels confident, the whole session flows better.

Choose something you feel comfortable and beautiful in, then build everyone else’s outfits around that.

Long, flowy dresses photograph beautifully during golden hour sessions in Denver’s open fields.

4. Plan for Movement

Family sessions aren’t stiff or overly posed.

We walk. We laugh. We cuddle. We play.

Make sure:

• Kids can move comfortably

• Shoes make sense for the location

• No one feels restricted

Comfort = natural smiles.

5. Need Help? I Guide You.

When you book a family session with Felicia Marie Photography, I provide styling guidance and help coordinate looks if needed.

You never have to figure it out alone.

My goal is for your session to feel effortless not stressful.

Why This Matters

Years from now, your children won’t remember what brand they wore.

They’ll remember how it felt.

Timeless wardrobe choices ensure your photos look just as beautiful 20 years from now as they do today.
